And now we bring you the charming tale of one Anthony Russo, an Orange County, CA, man, who is convinced that his recent shooting by police was a failed assassination attempt. The facts that the police had been following his car for three miles attempting to get him to pull over, or that he emerged from his car with a rifle in his hands, apparently have nothing to do with the fact that they opened fire.
“I’ve gotten it from friends of mine that are involved in the Town of Wallkill that I’m an enigma, that they would like to eliminate me just any way they could. Naturally, they didn’t go so far as saying they would shoot me down like a dog.”
Russo’s last brush with fame was in 1995, when he formed a local militia organization. His house is generously stocked with firearms, despite his having been convicted of grand larceny in 1981, which makes it illegal for him to own guns.
“All I did was get out of my car, and they shot me… It’s my right to have a rifle. It was loaded but not chambered. It’s a .30-caliber Army gun, a carbine.”
He is considering moving to North Carolina.
