On Saturday, from my gmail account, I sent Will an email containing a made up url on this site. Less than 6 hours later the googlebot site indexing agent (the program that google uses to find content on the web) attempted to view that particular url. This is well within the terms of agreement for their service, but nonetheless it is interesting. Does it spider links sent from websites for password resets or registration, for example? Probably. Which really confirms the general principle that you shouldn’t use gmail (or indeed webmail generally) for anything that you want to keep private.
