The Bolton nomination hearings haven’t gone half as well as the Bushies had hoped. Yesterday, the vote was delayed yet again after one of the Republican senators on the committee stated that he wasn’t convinced (let’s hope that DeLay doesn’t have anything on him!) Afterwards, Bush wheeled out the cynical, pseudo-patriotic, “can’t we all just get along” schpeel:
“John’s distinguished career and service to our nation demonstrates that he is the right man at the right time for this important assignment. I urge the Senate to put aside politics and confirm John Bolton to the United Nations,” he said.
Hmmm, lemme see… politicians should… “put aside politics”? And what, just do whatever Bush wants? Sounds reasonable. Could work. Sure, let’s try it! Bolton for UN! YAY Bolton.
