I hired my old man to help out with some of the renovation. Several of the existing walls were really crappily built, as you can see in this picture (thus far in this picture we had just removed a layer of plywood; everything else is as was originally). We removed and rebuilt them in place, framing them properly and swapping out the plywood for fire code drywall.
