This is the first in a series on customizing KDE. You may disagree with some of my choices, but hopefully there is something useful for you. I’ve been using KDE for around five years, and vastly prefer it to Gnome. KDE has a reputation as being bloated and sluggish, but this is really undeserved. With a little bit of customization, it is a very productive working environment.

My primary goals in customizing the desktop were as follows:

  • Emphasize productivity
  • Emphasize convenience
  • Emphasize performance (over eye candy)
