I just heard a caller to NPR, right after Obama’s speech, say how although he agrees with most of Obama’s positions and would rather vote for him than McCain, he can’t because of Obama’s position on abortion. That position is beyond ridiculous, and makes me mad. Putting ethical issues aside: we live in a democracy, and slightly more people are pro-choice than are anti-abortion. Legislating against abortion is never going to stick, no matter how hard right / religious a given administration is. The majority of the developed world allows abortion.

Voting for McCain is voting for the failed neocon policies of the last eight years. All but the inattentive and fanatic have to admit that Bush has been a terrible president; as Obama said in his DNC speech, McCain has agreed with Bush over 90% of the time on his policies. The economy is tanking; energy security is a vital issue; the environment is reaching a tipping point; and the US has cast itself in an ugly light internationally. We cannot afford McCain.

Put social issues aside and vote with your brain.
