There used to a freely available wordpress plugin called Smart Links, but it no longer works with recent versions of wordpress. Since I had hundreds of posts using this form of link, I posted on the wordpress forums and got advice on how to write a replacement, which was easy. Here it is for your [...]

I’ve started a new blog, which I’ll be co-authoring with Claire: ownharvest.com. It’ll be about our experiment growing food over the next year.

I’ve had some reports (and seen on one friend’s computer) that the embedded videos don’t render for some people on this site. I don’t understand why…if you are one of the affected and know the reason, please let me know. If you don’t know the reason, please post a msg with your OS (“windows XP”), [...]

No surprises considering the stuff I usually write about…

I reorganized the site. Everything seems to be working adequately now, although the AJAX search is flakey in IE. Also, I had to simulate position:fixed using javascript for IE, which is pretty flickery. I will probably put up a notice to let users know why.

I’ve enhanced the search feature on this blog; I’m using simplesearch, which makes use of mysql’s full text search features. I also tried out Search Reloaded, which provided better results, but broke a couple features on the blog.

I wanted to make a page to search a single category. Turns out it’s already possible; you just need to tweak wordpress a little.

<form id=”searchform” method=”get” action=”/index.php”> <small>Search:</small>
<input type=”text” name=”s” id=”s” size=”25″ class=”nav_textarea”/></form>
Now, go look in the wp_categories table in [...]
